Moreno Valley, California; Paris, France; July 9th, 2004 - The French Ministry of Equipment's migration to Linux project is replacing 1,500 office and infrastructure Microsoft Windows NT servers with Mandrakelinux Corporate servers. Mandrakesoft, the premier European Linux player, was also chosen for deployment, training and support for its Linux solution.

Recommendations for Open Source Software Use

Spanish Government supports the adoption of open source software by presenting recommendation report for government bodies The Spanish Ministry of Public Administrations (Ministerio de Administraciones Públicas) has published a guide entitled “Proposal of recommendations for the General State Administration on the use of open source software and open standards”. The recently released document is addressed towards government institutions aiming to provide recommendations for open source adoptions within public agencies.

Norwegian Minister says that all public sectors need to make a plan for the use of Open Source by 2006

The Norwegian government is taking large steps in their software policy: everybody in the public sector has to develop a plan for use of open source solutions within 2006. The Norwegian Minister of Modernization, Morton A. Meyer, presented new plan for information technology in Norway called “eNorge – the digital leap", where one of the points concerned open standards and open source. The details are not yet finalized, but the plan stipulate these objectives for standardization and open source.
